What is Freemasonry?
Freemasonry is one of the world's oldest and largest fraternal organisations. It brings together people from all walks of life who share common values such as integrity, friendship, respect, kindness and service to others.
Is Freemasonry a religion?
No. Freemasonry is not a religion and does not replace religion. Members come from many different faiths and backgrounds and are united by shared values rather than shared beliefs.
Is Freemasonry political?
No. Political discussion has no place in Lodge meetings and Freemasonry does not support any political party or cause.
Is Freemasonry a secret society?
No. Freemasonry is open about its existence, membership and charitable activities. Some traditional ceremonies remain private simply to preserve the experience for new members.
Who can become a Freemason?
Freemasonry welcomes adult men of good character from all backgrounds, professions and walks of life.
What happens at a Lodge meeting?
Meetings combine traditional ceremonies, Lodge business, charitable activity and fellowship. Members also enjoy social events and opportunities to involve their families.
How much time is involved?
Our Lodge meets once a month, Seven times a year, October to April (Excluding Emergency Meetings), We meet on the third Friday of the month. As a Member you decide for yourself how involved you wish to become and family and work commitments should always come first.
How much does it cost?
Costs vary between Lodges, however our Lodge has an annual membership fee of circa £180 plus the cost of a meal at each meeting.
I heard there is a meal after each meeting?
Yes, there is a meal called "The Festive Board" and you pay for this on a meeting by meeting basis and our lodge caterers will accommodate all dining allergies, choices and preferences. The cost of the meal is £18-£30 depending on how many courses there are.
What does Freemasonry do for charity?
Freemasons support a wide range of local and national charities through fundraising, volunteering, mentoring and practical community service.
Why do people join?
People join for many reasons including friendship, personal development, charitable involvement, tradition and a desire to belong to something worthwhile.
